I am a partner with the law firm Akerman LLP, a national Am Law 100 firm with more than 700 lawyers and business professionals across 24 offices. I serve as the Chair of Akerman's national Cannabis Practice, which is comprised of attorneys and lobbyists in Florida, California, Colorado, New York and Illinois.
Since the establishment of Akerman's Cannabis Practice in early 2014, I have concentrated primarily on counseling clients in all aspects of this nascent and rapidly evolving industry. I frequently lecture on cannabis related issues and have been published and quoted in national media outlets, including: U.S. News & World Report, Politico, Washington Post and Law360. Because Akerman is a full-service firm, our team is capable of handling significant corporate and securities transactions, regulatory matters, litigation, IP, real estate, employment, healthcare, tax and governmental affairs.
I am a graduate of The University of Michigan (undergrad) and The University of Florida College of Law. Since my admission to the Florida Bar in 1993, I have represented public and private companies as well as individuals in securities regulatory and litigation matters, as well as commercial cases. Prior to my work in the cannabis space, I focused heavily on regulatory investigations and enforcement proceedings initiated by federal, state and self-regulatory bodies, including the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, the Florida Attorney General's Office and the Florida Department of Financial Services, among others.
In addition, I am proud to be one of the founding board members of the NCBA and have been fortunate enough to serve as an active board member since its formation in 2015. It has been my sincere honor to contribute to the growth and success of this Association and hope to have the opportunity to continue to do so.
On a personal note, I live in Weston, Florida, a suburb outside of Fort Lauderdale with my wife and three children and treasure spending my free-time with the family.
I thank you for your nomination and hope to receive your vote.
